Good for you!!!
As far as learning the operating system, there really isn't much to it. The hardest part will be getting used to the software names, like Safari is the standard web browser, but you can get Firefox too if you wish. The biggest thing you will have to get used to is the 'Quit' function. Unlike Windows where you just have to 'x' out of the window it will shut down the program, you actually have to hit either 'apple-q' or go to file-quit. Also in Windows, each window has its own drop down tabs but there is one general drop down tab for each program.

If you want a super beast, you should go with the 8 duo core iMac. Ahhh haha. Redneck I don't see why you are so adamant on pointing out that Apple only has 6% market share, and its 21% in the US....

Its 21% market share in the US
source (http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/04/01/analyst-apples-us-consumer-market-share-now-21-percent/)
In the consumer market, where Apple does compete, he estimates the Mac’s share is now 10% worldwide and an impressive 21% in the U.S.
Yes, but let’s get the facts straight.
“1. OSX is still a $300 copy of freeware”
OS X is proprietary software built on and open source core. You can download the core from apple for free and do with it what you like…
“2. You still can’t run 90% of the software out there without loading another operating system.”
Flat out bs- there are equivalent programs, especially on intel macs (on PPC macs to) that will do anything you can do on a PC.
“3. As far as Linux platforms are concerned apple is still the weakest of the bunch.”
OS X isn’t Linux. It’s built on BSD Unix, and again, its GUI is proprietary.
If you want to slam something, at least get the facts straight.
So it might be cheaper but you get what you pay for I guess.

1 Better than PC in alot of ways.
2 Easyer to use Than PC. Ive played with em.
I will still have PC comps 2 because i wanna be a network security technician and well most networks out there run of windows. 2 I do play video game and well there better on windows. and 3 since my future career will be with comps and on a windows pc hell wont hurt to have em around.

You know you can get Parallel or Boot Camp and run your Windows OS of choice while running OSX. The only problem is that you become prone to all the viruses and crap of a Windows PC. It's good so you don't have to have multiple computers if you don't need them.

Atleast Microsoft products don't come with viruses pre-installed.

I've heard Macs are great for the first couple months you have them but i've heard that over time they are prone to freeze and crap out. I have Vista and i've never had a virus problem. Also bootcamp won't allow the use of all of Vista's features.
IMO if you want to have a Mac OS partition your Windows HDD and install OSX then dual boot. THen just buy a Mac monitor, mouse and keyboard and you won't know the difference.

Ok, so that was only iPod, and it only affected Windows. I have had my Mac for over a year now, and never have had a problem with it.
FGTG did you have to by Norton or McAffee to keep the viruses in check? I didn't.
And while MS might not have pre installed viruses, they have a butt load of extra advertisement and free-ware that I don't need on my computer.

Are you kidding me Norton and McAfee suck i've been using the stock Vista anti-virus protection with no problems at all.
