That Cali shot actually makes the car look good. 800MSP is a bit steep but then again you're not only getting the cars, you're getting single player challenges too. And it's only for the 360? Weird.
Hmm. Interesting. As you can see, this list has been fairly accurate in regards to the cars that were coming. Now as to this pack...5 F430 "clones" with the other 4 new cars, some new challenges on already existing tracks for some measly gamer score and it's $10? Is EA trying to take the piss here? I'm just very glad we have Turn 10. EA makes me so furious I can't even find the words I want to use.
LMAO the price is high but saying you're glad you have Turn 10 who are just today doing the same thing by charging full track pack* price for 1 track is kind of contradictory is it not? *Pack usually means more than 1 by the way
I think $5 for one track is pretty fair. I think $5 for 10 cars is pretty fair as well. I bought all the DLC for FM3 and FM2. This is $10 for essentially 5 cars/5 clones of 1 car, and 2 of these variants you can't even use in your career mode. New racing series...there's nothing new about it because it's just more laps around the same tracks in the game. This pack is very overpriced. EA continues to slap NFS fans in the face with every decision they make regarding this game. I sincerely wish them ill. Bit of an addendum: I would love to see how their sales are of this pack. I bet it will do worse than Heidi Montag's debut album.
400MSP for 1 track when with FM2 you remember how much they charged for Road America? The whole 400MSP $5 thing is a joke also, when you add it up that DLC is costing you more than the game itself. 12 months at $5 is the game again but with probably a quarter of the content. I know it's not a lot of money but to me rebuying the game or more infact makes us all look like idiots who will just eat up what is put in front of us and personally I'm not doing that. Yes this pack by EA is overpriced but Turn 10 aren't great in this department either. And you mention cloned cars, look at Forza 3 again, don't be somewhat of a hypocrite in damning one but praising another when they are both doing the same thing. Plus I bet a lot of people in the FM3 camp will actually admire the fact the new content is actually integrated into the single player campaign regardless of if it's on the same tracks.
They charged 400 points for Road America. At first, it was going to cost 800 points, but they changed that after fans complained. The fact is that DLC is now used to keep pace with profit expectations to cover how enormous development costs have become. Also, used game sales aren't exactly helping out the industry, and DLC allows Turn 10 to keep generating money, along with all that silly avatar gear. Sure, Forza 3 has cloned cars, and there is some repetition in car "models" among the DLC as well. However, calling out EA for including 5 clones in the same pack is not hypocrisy because Turn 10 haven't released 5 of the same car in one pack. Two of these cars you can't even use in your career. The events may be integrated into single player, but then again there aren't any new tracks here. You are essentially getting a few more laps around the same old courses in a new car, and a silly achievement for it. Turn 10 also didn't ship the most broken and buggy racing game ever made. SMS/EA did. So, yeah, I think I'm quite justified in pointing these things out.
Overpriced, maybe? But 10 bucks for 10 cars, and 46 new events in the career (plus 125 acheivement points), hell yeah I'll get it. I love Ferraris, hope that you can turn one of the F430s into a GT2 Class car. I bet you can. Can't wait to see the in car views for these.
No offence but have you seen Shift's track list from day 1? It probably has what FM3 will have at the end of it's DLC program! Simbin and Atari actually hold that title with Race Pro.
Regrading tracks, we could be so lucky if Turn10 throws in Spa, Donnigton, or Brands. Regarding Race Pro- :umm:*sigh* Sad but true. But I still love it. :-(
Yeah, I will admit, the track list is pretty decent in Shift. I don't like how they made the tracks look. I've played the game pretty thoroughly, btw. Only missing two achievements in the game. I didn't pick up Race Pro on release, so I'll take your word for it!
Indeed, I can definitely do without the extra advertising everwhere, giant tents, stages, amusement parks, giraffes, etc. they threw in the backgrounds. I understand the "festival" racing day feel, but it goes over the top. Still, I really like the option to choose the time of day. That's a nice feature. Audio, despite the bugs, give RP a try sometime, the actual sim racnig feel can't be beat on consoles IMO.
Heh, Turn10. I don't know why you're furious. Considering these cars were not on the disc to begin with. Unlike EA Canada's NFS games. If you remember, people marked out the DLC for NFSroStreet just by going through files of half constructed cars before it was even announced. Now, I can understand being furious for paying 10.00 USD for content already on the disc. Career Integration is where it's at. Audio Warfare, your beloved Turn10 didn't give us this with Nurburgring GP. ( 400MS for 2 ribbons? ) I'll take 10 cars, and 46 new events of that for double the price. But yeah, this should be fun. PS. RACE PRO was absolutely FANTASTIC.
They don't make me furious because of the DLC, they make me furious because of the state they shipped that game in along with a few other things I will keep to myself. My beloved Turn 10? Not sure what you mean by that. If you enjoy NFS, than more power to you, but NFS Shift is a broken, horribly unfinished mess of poor handling and ridiculous AI in my opinion. It doesn't matter that they are throwing in a few more cars and race tracks on a game that isn't playable to begin with, although it certainly could have been. If you want to put me down as "loving" a certain studio, than that would be Polyphony Digital. But that is a very tough love at the moment. And if Criterion can dig NFS back up from the grave this fall, the series will have my support again. I've played the title since the 3DO R&T version, so when I express anger over the series, understand I've been a fan of it for a very long time.
Well, in technical terms. Every game is broken these days. But I agree with your post 100% there. I've hated EA Canada's renaming NFS for the Fast and Furious fans. ProStreet brought hope, but a angry Fast and Furious community. SHIFT gives me little hope. Considering besides RACE PRO, and FM3. It's quite enjoyable. Besides the majority of the community. That is frustrating. But i'm sorry. I read too much Turn10 "BEST RACER EVVVA" FanBoy posts. I jumped the gun. But i'm going to agree, PD is my definitely a favorite studio. There's no lie there. Considering I can't pick a GT game apart. Things are done right, which i'm glad they are. Only if Turn10 would learn to not rush things just to get a quick sell.
I think Shift could have been a terrific game. I found a lot of it to be highly innovative in terms of gameplay. Mastering corners was flat out addictive as hell. I guess that's why I'm so damn angry about the game. Well, besides how EA handles their community. Oh, yeah, I see where you are coming from. I try not be a fanboy. I just love racing games and have played them for a long time. Sometimes I do get emotional about the subject and come off like a twit and if I did, I apologize. I realize I have been EA bashing in this thread, but goshdarnittoheck I wanted to like Shift so bad...! Here's hopin' Criterion sets things right.
I feel exactly the same way. I was really hoping Shift would be the Sim we all wanted it to be. But, I've come to accept it for what it is, and I too still find it to be very enjoyable. I still get a huge kick out of just running laps. Crank up the understeer, admire the graphics, and have fun. I've said this many times, but I wish I had a high powered PC for all the mods that are out now, people have made this quite the sim now. stripping everything down to the bare bones SMS engine. I love all types of racing games, what really gets me about the fanboy mentality, (not that I consider you to be one Audio, just speaking generally), is the lack of any willingness to even try any other racing game. It's very all or nothing. Forza or GT or what have you is the greatest game ever made, completely flawless, and there's no need to ever play any other game (even across other genres), and those that so are fools. Every game has flaws these days, and strengths too. But I'm of the opinion that options are good to have. We play games to have fun, and whatever that means for you, there you go. I know I've personally been down on fm3 lately. I don't want to come across as rude either. It's a great game to be sure, not without it's issues, and I understand why people love and defend it. I just lost interest in it a lot sooner than I thought I would. Hopefully we'll get some more tracks and content that will bring back that spark for me. And I'm also eagerly awaitng GT5. The wife ain't going to like another 400+ spent on another console and accessories, but it'll be worth it. Back to the original topic, it'll be interesting to see what other DLC they do for this game. I know they've said they have plenty of content planned. I'm hoping they release some new tracks sometime soon.
Interesting. Perhaps there is some hope that it will be worth playing again for me. For those who still play Shift, how is the online? When I played, even when the game was new, there were scarcely any players online, and the ones that were, well, they were not what I would call quality players. No offense taken. I've run into more than my share of fanboys and that mentality you're talking about is bizarre. But enough about fanaticism. It's disturbing enough as it is without dwelling on it. From what scant information I've read, Criterion is supposedly taking the series back to its roots. If this means super cars in wonderfully exotic locales then it will be quite refreshing. I'm not so sure the other racing games coming out this year will be interesting for me. Blur and Split/Second look way too arcadey. I will see what everyone thinks when the DLC pack is released next week.
How's the online? Not fun at all from what I've played. I was going to say horrible, but I didn't stick with it enough to confirm that. You think the AI in career was rough... Race with people you know in private rooms. Yeah, Blur and Split Second, not so much for me either. Looking forward to getting some more info about Criterion's effort. I like that they're mixing up the dev teams. Also looking forward to SMS' new one, Ferrari Project. Not much news on it lately.
Yeah, I can't count how many times i've avoided being smashed off the course and actually being smashed off the course. Especially in the 1 on 1 races. It really happens when i've won the first round and the next round I would end it. The already aggravating horrible racer becomes the 3x more aggravating horrible desperate racer going to do whatever he can to take you out. I wonder how it is now, esspecially when all the idiots are off the game. Atleast by this time. But woo-hoo to SMS for shooting life into this amazing game. Little late, but still. WOO HOO for career intrigration!
Very well said.......and am not a fanboy of any game. It sums up exactly how i stand with all 3 games. I am also getting a PS3 once again for just GT5....whenever it is released, it will be a must have.
The Ferrari DLC is available now! This lets you experience at least a small part of Slightly Mad's unreleased Ferrari Project game. Shift gave us the engine and the tracks only the cars were missing but now we have them too, at least a small part. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/08000002-0000-4000-8000-0000454108b4?cid=SLink Trailer: [tube]pHukC-eM660[/tube]
Well, I bought the DLC this morning, and have been giving it a bit of a rinsing out. Not quite as thoroughly as I should before commenting, but I want to give my opinion. First off, the Ferraris file themselves directly into your garage, so you won't have to make any tough choices to free up garage slots. You also won't have to work up millions of credits in order to own them like some other game I know. The bad news is that you can't do a thing with them visually. You can't change the color, add racing vinyls, not even the wheels. I hope you like rosso corsa and rosso scuderia, 'cos that's all you're getting! That's fine for me though. Oddly enough, if you go into quick race, you can toggle the entire Ferrari line up outside of your garage (like the loaners and reward cars) and change their colors to any factory Ferrari color. You also can't upgrade them. You can adjust their tuning settings, and you will definitely need to. First car I drove was the Ferrari California. I checked the tuning settings before I went out and discovered the suspension was set to "mush" and the downforce was set to "take flight off the track." Not exactly ideal, my Supra had the same problems in the game. I went ahead and hit Spa-Francorchamps and drove 3 laps and it only confirmed what I already knew. The California is gimped out of the box. Wouldn't stay on the track, sagged and heaved all over the place. So back to the tuning menu, I bumped "mush" to medium across the board, and "take flight off the track" to "glue" and went back. Better results this time, but still not exactly stellar. This car is going to need an expert's touch at tuning, and I'm not that expert. A bit dismayed, I went to the Ferrari races, which are in your career menu on the left before Tier 1. This time I went in with the F430 Scuderia. This was a bit more to my liking. The car performed quite respectably, and I handed the AI a nice serving of exhaust fumes. The audio of the California was a bit nice, but the Scuderia...well, let's just say I filled the cup. Sounds absolutely wicked. Oddly, a couple of the Ferraris are Tier 5 cars, unusable in career races. The FXX is Tier 4. I guess this was to basically lock them out so they were only usable in Quick Race. A bit of a bummer, but we were given the heads up. After playing with the new patch yesterday, there have been a few notable improvements. Handling does seem a touch better, and the tire squeal which was deafening has been reduced to a decent level, so no more intense headaches. Flag girl, the infamous mutant who liked to sit in your car like some sort of bizarre racing Kitty Pryde has returned. She was completely removed with the last patch, but now she is back, and, thankfully not standing inside your car. Menus have slight differences. I think this patch was mostly to prep for DLC. Anyway, that's just a heads up for anyone considering purchase. It's a bit expensive at $10 (800 points,) but it's quite nice to see the Ferrari marque finally return to NFS.
D/L'ed it this morning quick before work. Can't wait to try them out. Great synopsis there Audio. Really good to hear that you don't have to free up slots for them. I would've been ok if you had to buy them, since you have more money than God by the time you're done, but it's really nice they're unlocked and in your garage from the get go. Bummer that you can't change the liveries or upgrade them at all. Was hoping for some nice GT Class battles with F430 and Porsche online with a friend. Glad you can tune them, I'm sure I'll have some of them dialed in within the next few days. I do enjoy tweaking the tunings and running test laps in this game. I did play quite a bit last night and was really surprised after the patch. Yes, handling did get an upgrade IMO, I was racing some of the twitchy reward cars, and they don't slide as easily anymore. More grip, less back end happy. That's great. I did notice the tire sounds as well. I started racing stock versions of cars, most seemed to have more grip all around. I had a few cars left as stock in my garage, tuned so they'd handle better, (I really enjoy racing a stock Audi, Beemer, or Porsche on the ring at times). No need now, I upgraded them the rest of the way. BADNED, ok, so in your post you mentioned SMS' unleased Ferrari Challenge. Is that still coming out in the future? Or are they just putting the assets in this instead?
I am happy with the new content, The Ferraris look and sound amazing, and they also handle pretty well. I use the MS wheel and was really struggling to get settings that felt right, but with some (backward and forward menu jumping) I came up with these settings. and the game feels tight. MS Wheel Settings. ----------------------------------- Steering Dead Zone - 0% Accel Dead Zone - 0% Brake Dead Zone - 0% Steering Sensitivity - 97% Accel Sensitivity - 50% Braking Sensitivity - 40% Speed Sensitive Steering - 100% FFB - Default ------------------------------------- G.
Agreed with everything you just posted. I bought the pack, checked everything out. I was hoping to waste the 22 million dollars I still have on a really expensive car. But yeah... My luck on that is thwarted once again. I looked at the Ferrari's, the events. A smile came to my face. Then I went to change the color. And like you already said Audio. What colors they're already in, are stuck there. A sad face form with a slow progress. Then I drove the Scuderia. And a HUGE smile on my face came to. I'm pretty happy for the pack though, finally some life back into this enjoyable game. Time to play away!
Finally got a chance to try 'em out this morning before work. Some of them handle pretty darn good right out of the box. I love the F430 GTC, there you go. GT Class for the proverbial win. Shame you can't put a nice livery on it. I really dig this pack so far. Can't wait to try the new events and get some serious laps in.
Well did some online racing. Doesn't seem much alive. But I raced this fella "wenspoon", which I thought it was a good race till the end of the last lap. Where the immature racer took me out in the middle of the last two corners of Road America. This game didn't change people wise. Everyone is still obsessed with taking the leader out.
I really have yet to find any game where that sort of thing is generally frowned upon. It's happened in Forza plenty of times. I try really hard to avoid contact, but it's inevitable. One guy in Forza wildly crossed into my racing line and performed a self-PIT maneuver. I got quite the earful once that happened, he blamed me for the accident, said I couldn't win without cheating, and so on. Even when I pulled over to let him pass, he still rambled on and on. That was pretty much the last time I ever raced online in Forza with strangers. I've tried with Shift, but I had the same results you guys had. Sportsmanship is dead online.
Self pitting is always going to happen as people only choose to see what is ahead of them never what is beside or behind them.
Always will be, because it's mostly the idiots. I've had a few... and few meaning stupid rare. Where i'd find the people who have some real sportsmanship. I have found them on SHIFT before, but that was only one time and that was win the game just came out. After that, it's a no no. I think it's these games with tuning options that killed the online racer. Cause kids go OOOO I CAN MAKE MY CAR INTO THAT CAR ON THE SUPERSTREET COVER. I'm pretty sure i'm on to something. Anyway, i'm going to continue on with single player. As the AI has more sportmanship than a person does. Atleast the AI has the quote "Rubbin' is racing" running through their... AI Brain.... rather than "TAKE OUT THE LEADER 1 LOSS, IS 1 MORE NUMBER IN MY LOSSES"
