    Hello
I bought an Xbox 360 Pro console in June 2007, it's soldiered on for 2 years. But alas today I got the 3 red rings of death. So I called 800-4MY-XBOX so I could arrange to have it fixed under the extended 3 year warranty. I was pretty excited because I've been having problems with the system for a year now the disc tray would stick, and it would require me tapping the "plastic chrome" of the disc tray to pop it out and it would litterly take 5-10 minutes to change games.

So when I call I'm speaking to "Kaizer T" and he informs me that the console was registered in 2006 and no longer under warranty, and there was nothing he could do. So I demanded to speak to a supervisor "Mike B"... This guy was a total idiot and contradicted himself. He basically informed me that because the unit was a refurbished unit it only has a 1 year manufacturer warranty ,and the extended 3 year one did not apply. I tried to argue my point that MS was ripping people off with this practice as a refurbished unit would most likely have been repaired at some point and was more likely to fail. He stood firm and mumbled something about terms and conditions. And if I wanted it repaired I'd have to pay $140 ****ing dollars". I told him I wanted to speak to his boss, at first he said "he was as high as I could go" I DEMANDED to speak to someone who could actually do something to help. He VERY reluctantly said I would get a call back in 24-48hrs from a manager.

Seriously though I didn't save that much money on the console I bought, it was a serious investment. When I bought the console at Millennium 3000 I asked if the manufacturer warranty was good. And they informed me I'd have a 1year manufacturer warranty from the store, and it was like "buying" a brand new console and the manufacturer warranty was good. I'm just very pissed off right now, their customer service is a joke, as are their terms and conditions regarding refurbished consoles is beyond obscene. If I knew their policy for refurbished Xbox's I'd have never bought one as I saved like a whole $50....

The only game I do really play is Forza Motorsport (MOD EDIT: and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007)and that's mainly why I bought the console. But if this is the kind of treatment I get then I may be renaming this site GranTurismoCentral.com, as I'll be buying a PS3 with some BLU-RAYS.

I'll wait and see what their manager has to say.

    I believe M$ fixes RRoD'd Xbox's at no cost.

That sucks, mine for 2006 has been throwing E74 since January and FM3 is the only game it has a problem with. I thinking of getting a PS3 as well, as their game library is pretty good and the online is free.

The only thing that would suck about going PS3 is that they are prone to Blu-Ray drive failures and YLOD which occur after a year of use or after the warranty expires. Sony charges $150 to fix it.....

    You'd think that they would...

How prone? Out of 21 people I know with a PS3 only 1 has had a problem with it.

The PS3 is defnintely a worthy buy at this time what with all the AAA games out, the wheel support plus the added bonus of Blu-ray clarity and sound is definitely worth a gander.

i would like to get a PS3, but there just aren't any games out there that i want. the only 2 i'm interested in are little big planet(which is amazing!) and GT5(which will apparently never be released). i don't care about the blu-ray play back either because i'm not gonna spend $30 on a movie, especially when i can stream the stuff for free.

i haven't unboxed my 'box since i moved into our new house(about 3 weeks ago) because the POS is getting the E74 error. apparently there isn't a non-microsoft fix either. guess i'll just buy a brand new 'box eventually.

as for the topic at hand, c'mon, don't be pissed about this now. this has been old, common news for a while now. it's been this way for years, since they put the new warranty program into place.

i have been really tempted to get a PS3 for when GT5 comes out, but luckily as my housemate got one at christmas time and recently got a nice samsung 1080p 37" tv which are all going in the lounge soon i dont need to bother myself.

hard luck about the RROD with your 360, but now that it has happened the PS3 is probably the better way to go. It seems a bit balls that microsoft are being arses about it, but that is to be expected from them.

ive had a total of 6 360s now, im on my 7th which was sent in for e74, but i got the original back, that was last year at this time. i refused to buy a refurb. my mind works like this, if someone else had a problem with it, then i probably was too. lol

Go on craigslist its filled with people selling used YLOD PS3s and N4G has numerous posts every week about it. Its getting worse as time goes on and yes mine YLOD.

Just a suggestion you could always buy a new Core system or a used one for dirt cheap and throw your HDD on it.

I've always been under the assumption that MS had a lifetime warranty on RRoDs, since it's been such a huge setback in the reliabilities of 360s. IIRC its their own design flaw having such crappy air cirulation through the 360.

They fixed my RRoD last summer for free but it looks like they have changed their ToS... (I had mine for more than three years)

Took that from the M$ website.

I'm not buying a PS3 til GT5 comes out, only other games i want for ps3 are God of War Series. I'm hoping that because GT5 is taking so long they'll have some kind of special edtion GT5 PS3.

Look up on Craigslist theres alot of people who can fix RROD for 70 bucks at the most, I had 3 xbox's that shitted out and I bought a new arcade model transfered over my HDD and fixed the other 3 xbox's for 150 bucks total and sold them all for 100 bucks each. I dont understand why they would take your xbox 3 year warranty from date of manufacture so 2006? its 2010...?
